Ganpati is the busiest week of the year for Ukdiche Modak — and also the week most home kitchens run out of ingredients, gas, and time. Ordering ahead solves both problems. Here’s how to plan it well.
How far in advance should I order?
Because Ukdiche Modak is a fresh, steamed item with a 24–36 hour shelf life, we make it to order rather than stocking it. During the Ganpati week specifically, place your order at least 3–4 days ahead — slots fill up fast, and same-day requests may not be possible once we hit our daily steaming capacity.
How many modaks per person?
For a naivedya (offering) plate, 2–5 modaks per household is typical. If you’re hosting guests or doing a larger family gathering, plan on 3–4 per adult guest as a dessert portion — our modaks come in boxes of 6, so most families order 1–2 boxes for a small puja and 3+ for a bigger gathering.
Can I customize the filling or size?
Our standard filling is fresh grated coconut and jaggery, scented with cardamom — the traditional combination. For bulk or society orders of 5 kg+, we can discuss customization; message us on our contact page with your requirements.
How do I store modaks before the puja?
Since they’re a fresh, unpreserved item, refrigerate them if you’re not consuming within a few hours of delivery, and steam briefly to soften before serving. They’re best enjoyed the same day they’re made.
What else is popular during Ganpati?
Alongside modak, many families also order Puranpoli for the same naivedya, and laddoos for guests who visit through the festival days.
